Thirteen College of Liberal Arts and Sciences faculty and staff received university awards celebrating their commitment to learning, discovery and engagement, which are the cornerstones of Iowa State’s land-grant mission. They will be honored during the university’s annual awards ceremony on Friday, Sept. 14, in the Memorial Union Great Hall.
Theresa Windus, professor of chemistry, was named Distinguished Professor. It is the highest academic honor the university bestows, recognizing faculty members whose accomplishments in research or creative activities have had a significant impact on their disciplines.
Amy Andreotti, professor of biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology, was named University Professor. This title is awarded to a faculty member who has acted as a change agent by making significant contributions to improve the university.
Donald Sakaguchi, professor of genetics, development and cell biology, and Susan Yager, professor of English, were both named Morrill Professor. This title is given to faculty members who exhibit excellence in undergraduate or graduate teaching or extension and outreach programs.
Jacob Petrich, professor of chemistry, and Pam Riney-Kehrberg, professor of history, received the Regents Award for Faculty Excellence. This award is presented by the Iowa Board of Regents to recognize tenured faculty members who are outstanding university citizens and have significantly served the university or the state of Iowa.
Julia Dominguez, associate professor of world languages and cultures, received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching which recognizes a faculty member for outstanding teaching performance.
Kristopher Lee, lecturer in mathematics, received the Award for Early Achievement in Teaching which recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated outstanding teaching performance, unusually early in their careers.
Leslie Hogben, professor of mathematics, received the Margaret Ellen White Graduate Faculty Award, which recognizes superior performance by a graduate faculty member in enriching the student-professor relationship and enabling students to finish their work in a timely and scholarly manner.
Carolyn Cutrona, professor and chair of psychology, received the Award for Departmental Leadership which recognizes outstanding departmental leadership that helps faculty members meet their varied obligations to teaching, mentoring, research and service.
Aaron Rossini, assistant professor of chemistry, received the Award for Early Achievement in Research, which recognizes faculty members who demonstrate outstanding accomplishments unusually early in their careers.
Corinne Grover, associate scientist in ecology, evolution and organismal biology, received the Professional and Scientific Research Award which recognizes a P&S staff member for excellence in research.
Dan Rice, program coordinator for student academic services in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, received the Carroll Ringgenberg Award which recognizes a P&S staff member who exhibits constant and contagious dedication to and goodwill for Iowa State.
