Ames Laboratory scientist Javier Vela will spend part of July 2017 in São Paulo, Brazil, as a member of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry’s (IUPAC) Young Observer Program. The U.S. National Committee (USNC) of IUPAC sends U.S. observers under the age of 45 from industry, academia and national laboratories to the IUPAC World Chemistry Congress and General Assembly, held every two years. The goal of the program is to introduce a new generation of distinguished researchers to IUPAC and provide them with opportunities to address international scientific issues.
