Routledge, a British multinational publisher that specializes in academic books, journals, and online resources in the fields of humanities and social science, has just published a major new anthology, The Routledge History of Rural America, edited by Pamela Riney-Kehrberg, professor of History.
In addition to Riney-Kehrberg, among the twenty-six contributors are current ISU history faculty Jeff Bremer, Julie Courtwright, and Kathleen Hilliard, as well as former ISU history Ph.D students J. L. Anderson (now associate professor of history at Mount Royal University in Alberta, Canada), Jenny Barker Devine (associate professor of history at Illinois College), and Peter Noll (assistant professor of public history and museum studies at Tusculum College in Tennessee).
“This level of participation really shows what a major place our Rural, Agricultural, Technological, and Environmental History program occupies in this field of history,” said Michael Bailey, professor and interim chair of the Department of History.
About the book, the Routledge website says, “The Routledge History of Rural America charts the course of rural life in the United States, raising questions about what makes a place rural and how rural places have shaped the history of the nation. Bringing together leading scholars to analyze a wide array of themes in rural history and culture, this text is a state-of-the-art resource for students, scholars, and educators at all levels.”
