Sarah Huffman earns Miller Open Education Mini Grant

CATEGORIES: Honored

Sarah Huffman, assistant director of the Graduate College’s Center for Communication Excellence, has been awarded a Miller Open Education Mini Grant.

The grant program encourages instructor innovation in adopting and creating open educational resources such as textbooks, syllabi, videos, software and other educational materials that are free, accessible to all students and carry legal permission for open use.

Huffman earned the grant for her proposal, “Expanding Research Writing Learning Materials for Application across University Graduate-Level Courses.”

The implementation of open educational resources at Iowa State University has saved students more than half a million dollars during the 2020/2021 academic year. These free educational resources not only save students money, but also increase educational equity, benefiting marginalized students and those from underserved socioeconomic groups even more than their peers.
