Alan Wanamaker, associate professor of geological and atmospheric sciences, has been elected as Fellow of the Geological Society of America (GSA).
David Gillikin, professor of geology and director of the environmental science, policy and engineering program at Union College in Schenectady, New York, nominated Wanamaker for this honor.
“Alan Wanamaker is an outstanding geoscientist, educator, and community member as evidenced by his meaningful contributions to paleoclimate research, mentorship of his students, and efforts in organization of GSA meetings,” said Gillikin.
GSA members are nominated by existing GSA Fellows in recognition of a sustained record of distinguished contributions to the geosciences and the Geological Society of America through such avenues as publications, applied research, teaching, administration of geological programs, contributing to the public awareness of geology, leadership of professional organizations, and taking on editorial, bibliographic, and library responsibilities.
Wanamaker will attend the GSA annual meeting in September to be recognized in person.
