Alumni Award recipients


AMES, Iowa- Beate Schmittmann, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University, announced the college’s 2016 Alumni Award recipients on June 15, 2016. The recipients represent alumni who have earned success and distinction in the sciences, arts and humanities.

Recipients include:

Elizabeth A. Baird (Journalism and Mass Communication and International Studies ’76) - Carrie Chapman Catt Public Engagement Award
Rear Adm. Randall M. Hendrickson (Political Science and Naval Science ’83) US Navy (Ret) - Citation of Merit
Dennis C. Wendell (Distributed Studies, ’67) - Dean’s Arts and Humanities Award
Thomas A. Connop (History ’76) - Distinguished Service Award
Tyler P. Stafford (Advertising and Speech Communication ’11) - Young Alumnus Award

“We are delighted to recognize our outstanding alumni and their achievements. LAS alumni throughout the world are making a positive difference and we are proud of their contributions to both local and global communities,” said Dean Schmittmann.

The honorees will be formally recognized Oct. 27, 2016 at the LAS Honors and Awards Banquet at the ISU Alumni Center.

“The LAS Honors and Awards Program gives us the opportunity to honor some of the most distinguished alumni and friends of the college,” said Kim McDonough, director of alumni relations for LAS. “This year’s selection process was especially difficult due to the number of very strong nominations. The college has a number of accomplished and deserving alumni and friends.”

The awards are given to alumni, faculty and friends of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The purpose of these awards is to recognize the outstanding achievement in their professions and their service or academic contributions that they have made to further the educational mission of the college.
