Ames, Iowa – June 6, 2025 – The Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University is proud to announce a partnership with KCCI, aimed at bringing international storytelling to local audiences. As part of this collaboration, a select group of student journalists and faculty will travel to Dublin, Ireland, to cover the Iowa State vs Kansas State football game at the 2025 Aer Lingus College Football Classic on Aug. 23, with their stories to be distributed across KCCI 8 News platforms.

This immersive field assignment will provide students with real-world international reporting experience, covering Iowa State’s first-ever football game to be held outside the United States. Under the guidance of experienced faculty, the student journalists will pitch, produce, and file stories from the ground in Dublin, ranging from news packages and feature pieces to digital content and social media coverage.

“The Greenlee School works to connect our students with the media profession,” said Dr. Michael Dahlstrom, Director of the Greenlee School. “This partnership with KCCI provides an exciting new opportunity for these students to network and build their portfolio based on their work from this study abroad experience.”

Select pieces will appear on KCCI 8 newscasts and digital channels, giving central Iowa unique insights and perspectives from across the Atlantic.

“KCCI is excited to partner with students and staff from the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication. Working with and helping train America’s future journalists is an important part of our mission as Iowa’s News Leader,” said KCCI News Director Natalie Cabieses.

The trip to Dublin will take place from Aug. 14 to Aug. 25. Stories will begin appearing on KCCI 8 News in the days prior to the game. The student journalists will also share content with the Iowa State Daily, the university’s student-operated news organization.
